32nd Annual Good Friday Walk For Hunger and Homelessness |

Dear
Friends,
Over the past 31 years, the Annual Good Friday Walk has raised more than a million dollars in support of organizations that help the hungry and homeless. Each year, we come together to walk, reflect, and draw attention to our cause. Make it your own spiritual discipline this year while raising funds to help hungry and homeless people— and invite others to join you from your church, school or workplace. Won’t you join us on Friday April 2nd, for the 32nd Annual Good Friday Walk?
In these challenging times, the need of our grantees is greater than ever. In response, we’ve set an ambitious goal— $100,000 and 500 walkers, and now it’s up to you. Set a personal goal— for instance, raise $5 in paid pledges each day during Lent and recruit a team to do the same. A daily goal makes fundraising manageable and helps to keep the hungry and homeless in your thoughts every day this Lenten season.
Choose your starting point from one of ten Stepping Out Sites in the greater Providence area. We will step out from area churches/organizations at 9:00 a.m. and walk to the State House in time for a rally at 11:00 a.m. Walk Kits are available (at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church on Oxford Street and the Rhode Island State Council of Churches on Chapman Street) to help you to get started. Besides a band-aid, you will find everything you need to help you organize a walk team:
+ Why Do We Walk? + Frequently Asked Questions
+ How to Walk a Good Friday Walk + Walker sign Up Sheets
+ Fund Distributions for 2009 + Individual Walker Pledge Sheets
+ 2010 Talking Points + Bulletin Inserts
+ Stepping Out Sites + Contribution Envelopes
(You may photocopy these materials, download them from www.GoodFridayWalkforHungerRI.org, or call me at 401-640-4546 to arrange for pick-up or delivery of additional supplies.)
We encourage you to be CREATIVE! If you can’t walk, have a BAKE SALE or a YARD SALE and contribute the money raised. You might even take a SPECIAL COLLECTION. The Annual Good Friday Walk is now on Facebook! Stay in touch, share tips and progress with other walkers— it’s a great way to get younger walkers involved.
The Walk is supported by a broad cross-section of religious denominations and communities, schools, nonprofit organizations, and businesses. Together was can all take steps to eliminate hunger and homelessness
Faithfully,
Jill
